All applicable taxes are extra.
Usual delivery is approx. 3-4 weeks from receipt of artwork and deposit.
All screen-print orders are subject to a 10% over/under run. Accounts are adjusted accordingly.
Artwork should be provided on disk or emailed in preferred file format.
Laser and PMT artwork are accepted but may be subject to additional art charges.
Customer must supply PMS or Pantone Matching System (COATED) numbers for all screen- printed orders.
Most quantity orders are screen-printed on durable knitted polyester for outdoor or indoor use.
Most single flag orders are appliquéd using heavyweight nylon bunting, or digitally printed on a variety of fabrics for outdoor or indoor use. Customer must choose colours from fabric samples.
Samples of screen-printed and appliquéd flags and banners are on display and available for viewing at our showroom at 911 Richmond Rd., Ottawa.
ELECTRONICALLY SENT ARTWORK:
Our preferred file type for flag or banner production is as follows:
Adobe Illustrator vector file (preferably saved as version CS latest) with all text outlined and PMS values assigned to spot colours.
CMYK values should be avoided to ensure the best colour match. Avoid transparencies and gradients as much as possible.
In most cases, an artwork or setup charge will not apply if we receive suitable vector artwork ready for output. If you do not have a vector version of your logo or if your image requires "clean up" or modification, artwork charges may apply. If you are not certain if you have the correct file type, please send us whatever you have and we will advise you if it is suitable for our production purposes. Hint... If you have ever used your logo or artwork for signage or business cards, most often the same artwork files used by your sign maker or printer will be suitable for flag or banner printing.
What is Vector Art?
Vector artwork is made up of lines and shapes (as opposed to pixels) and will not become blurry when enlarged. The 2 most popular programs used to create vector artwork are Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw.
This type of artwork is preferred over raster (pixelated) art. The most common vector file types are AI, EPS or PDF.
PLEASE NOTE: Simply changing the file extension to one of the options mentioned above does NOT make the artwork vector.
Design Specifications:
1. Files can be built at either full size or 10% of the actual size. For example, a file for a 36"x72" flag or banner can be built at either 36” H x 192” W or 3.6” H x 72" W.
2. Use CMYK colour mode (not RGB).
3. Convert all type to curves/outlines. Not outlining the text runs the risk that we may not have that same version of the font or may not have that font at all. Outlining text creates tiny anchor points around it converting it into a shape rather than a font.
4. If colour accuracy is critical, it is important that a PMS colour is assigned wherever possible. PMS stands for Pantone Matching System — a very specific collection of colours that will print the same regardless of the printer. Assigning PMS colours will help production match colours as best as they can. This applies to both screen printed and digital printed flags.
What is Raster art...
Raster artwork is made up of many “dots". Photographs are always raster images. The resolution of the artwork is measured by the number of dots per inch (DPI). The higher to DPI, the clearer the image becomes. This type of artwork has the potential to become blurry when enlarged past the ideal resolution size. The most common raster file types are JPG, TIFF or GIF. Digital photographs taken with most digital cameras are usually JPG files. Depending on the resolution of the original image, a digital photo may be suitable enough for flag reproduction.
Logos and images used within websites are usually low resolution, around 72 DPI and therefore unsuitable for flag or banner reproduction when enlarged. A good rule of thumb for image size is to avoid artwork that is only a few kilobytes (ie. 36 KB). Images that are several megabytes (ie. 4.2 MB) are usually sufficient resolution to use.
Raster files for flag or banner printing only need to be about 150 DPI at full size. Should you design at 10% scale, be sure to increase the resolution accordingly.
When combining both vector & raster art...
When combining both types of artwork, place the raster image in the vector document and save the whole thing in a vector format.
